REPARATION, RECREATION & RECIPROCITY 2024

The Ute Mountain Ute & Southern Ute Tree Planting Retreat took place at High Camp Hut in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, bringing together participants from both communities alongside 15 volunteers. During the retreat, 50 trees—including blue spruce and Douglas fir were planted as part of a collaborative effort to support reforestation and the long-term health of the surrounding landscape.

More than a restoration initiative, the retreat fostered cultural connection and environmental stewardship through hands-on participation. By engaging youth and community members in planting efforts, the project created meaningful opportunities to strengthen relationships with the land while supporting its care for future generations. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to both ecological restoration and community-led action.
