TREECOVERY KULA HOME PLANTING

The Treecovery planting project in Kula, Maui brought together community members to support local recovery and long-term sustainability efforts following environmental challenges in the region. Led by Duane Sparkman, this initiative focused on planting 85 trees at a Kula home, marking the first successful planting under the Treecovery program. With the help of 12 volunteers, all trees were planted in a single day, with protective measures such as tree cages added to ensure their survival.

The impact of the project extended beyond restoration. With ongoing care from the landowner and favorable elevation conditions, all 85 trees have successfully survived. The planting became part of a broader healing process for the community, offering hope and a sense of renewal. Moments like helping families replant and restore their land created deeply meaningful experiences for everyone involved, reinforcing the belief that community-led efforts can make a lasting difference in both environmental recovery and climate action.
